Nestled amid rolling cornfields and tree-lined rivers, Mason City, Iowa is home to Woodharbor Doors & Cabinetry, Inc. It is here, in the heartland of America, that fine interior millworks are skillfully and expertly crafted by people who genuinely care about the artistry of crafting and finishing fine woodwork. At Woodharbor, we want our doors and cabinetry to reflect the qualities we respect most in a fine piece of furniture ... simplicity, beauty, attention to detail, solid craftsmanship and purity of style and construction. We are determined to bring you the finest in interior wood millworks ... and we are serious about that commitment. Imagine being able to choose all your interior millworks (interior doors, cabinetry, mantels and molding) from one source. One source that utilizes the same woods, the same finishes, the same design details and the same quality workmanship for your entire project. And then packages and delivers everything together...complete and on-time. The "whole home concept" of interior millworks is one that has not been accomplished within a large-scale manufacturing operation. The Lewerke's were breaking new ground by making this concept the core of their entire production, marketing and sales philosophies. It was a concept they coined "The Woodharbor Home". This concept combines the manufacturing of interior doors and cabinetry under one roof so that you can confidently plan your home interior with door styles, woods and finishes that complement and match each other in design, quality and finish.
A century of craftsmanship. A lifetime of quality. Our love affair with crafting wood began all the way back in 1908.Today our aim is to produce beautiful cabinetry with integrity and personal attention, the way a hundred-year-old company should. At Yorktowne, your cabinetry is made-to-order, one kitchen at a time, for a warm and inviting design that directly reflects your personal tastes and lifestyle. Our dedication to your Yorktowne retailer ensures satisfaction every step of the way. A heritage of service built on a century of craftmanship - that's the Yorktowne difference Facilities and Production. Green lumber to finished cabinetry. Yorktowne is a fully integrated manufacturer of fine cabinetry. This means we start with green lumber and take it through to the finished product. We control all phases of the manufacturing process, ensuring the production of finely crafted, quality cabinets every step of the way. The process begins in our Dimension Mill in Mifflinburg, PA. At that location, green lumber with a moisture content of 80% is placed in a pre-dryer and kiln to be dried to the desired moisture content of 6%. The lumber goes through a series of rough dimensioning processes -- then proceeds to the molders, which cut random widths and lengths down to finer sizes. Finally, all face frames, doors and drawer components are produced with state-of-the-art woodworking machinery. Our plant in Red Lion, PA and our new plant in Danville, VA take over and concentrate on fine milling, assembly and finish operations. After all finishing processes are completed, the cabinets are carefully assembled, reviewed for quality assurance, cartoned and shipped. History of Growth and Expansion Our entire history is about working with wood. Operations began in 1908 in New York with the manufacture of wooden doors, window frames and sashes. The 1920s saw the family-owned business begin to manufacture custom kitchen cabinets. Operations were moved to Pennsylvania in 1937. Colonial Products, as we were then known, survived World War II by winning a war contract to make footlockers for the U.S. Navy and medical corps equipment for military facilities around the world. In the 1950s, we pioneered the development of national distribution in the kitchen cabinet industry by manufacturing kitchens in quantity and holding them in inventory for future delivery. The 1960s, 70s and 80s were decades of further expansion of our product line and facilities. In 1960 an institutional furniture line and, later, a library furniture line were introduced. In 1973, Colonial Products became Yorktowne, a Division of the Wickes Corporation. In 1978, the TRIO line was introduced featuring easy cabinet door changes on a singular cabinet box, with an innovative snap-in hinge. In 1980, Connect-ables ready-to-assemble cabinets were introduced. In 1982, Yorktowne introduced its top-of-the-line Signature Series Cabinetry. The 1990s were a decade of significant developments including the acquisition of Yorktowne by Elkay Manufacturing Company. All of our facilities were upgraded, enabling Yorktowne to produce a high-quality, semi-custom product more efficiently. Many multi-year process improvements were put in place throughout the company and will continue. Today we proudly celebrate our 99th anniversary year as one of the nations largest producers of fine quality, semi-custom cabinetry, with distribution in markets east of the Mississippi River. You can select from a vast array of door styles and finish combinations, cabinetry sizes and accessory items offering an unlimited variety of creative options to fit your lifestyle.
